Pokémon GO Events in August 2026: Raids, Community Day, and Schedule

August 3, 2026 · David · 11 min read

Full August 2026 Pokémon GO schedule: Kyurem, Lake Trio, Groudon, Lunala, Regis, mega raids, Shadow Giratina, Nickit Community Day, Summer Marathon, Hatch Day, Ultra Unlock Water Festival, and GO Pass rewards.

Pokémon GO’s August slate is stacked: legendary raids, strong megas, a new shadow legendary, Max Mondays, and a Water Festival that looks nasty for XP and Stardust. Below is the full month broken into raids, spotlights, Max battles, daily bonuses, and the big timed events so you can decide what is worth your passes and walking time.

If you trade on PoGoTrade, this is also a good month to fill gaps (hundos, shadows, regionals) and list what you actually need.

Five-star raid schedule

Raid bosses change in the morning local time. Plan remote raids for region-locked Lake Trio if you still need the shiny.

DatesBossNotes
Jul 29 – Aug 4KyuremDragon/Ice. Glaciate needs an Elite Charged TM; raid catches will not roll it
Aug 5 – Aug 11Lake TrioUxie (Asia-Pacific), Mesprit (Europe, Middle East, Africa, India), Azelf (Americas & Greenland). ~1/20 shiny
Aug 12 – Aug 18GroudonGround. Precipice Blades is Elite TM. Shadow and Primal are the long-term goals
Aug 19 – Aug 25LunalaPsychic/Ghost. Shiny available. Solid Master League and ghost attacker
Aug 26 – Sep 8Regirock, Regice, RegisteelTwo full weeks. Registeel matters most for Great/Ultra and Dynamax tank builds

Kyurem (Jul 29 – Aug 4)

Kyurem

Kyurem is the one to open the month with intent. With Glaciate it feeds Black and White Kyurem, which sit at the top of Ice attackers. Raid Kyurem will not know Glaciate, so budget Elite Charged TMs if you are building for raids. Two strong IV spreads (ideally hundos) is a fair target if you fuse later.

Lake Trio (Aug 5 – Aug 11)

Uxie Mesprit Azelf

The Lake Trio is mostly a dex and shiny hunt. Psychic attackers are not carrying the current raid meta, but the shiny rate is friendly. Remote the ones outside your region if you are still missing forms.

Groudon (Aug 12 – Aug 18)

Groudon

Groudon is still a priority whenever it shows up. Precipice Blades (Elite TM) keeps it relevant; Shadow is elite as a ground attacker, and Primal Groudon is the ceiling plus weather candy boosts for Fire, Ground, and Grass. If you skipped a hundo at GO Fest, this window is your second chance.

Lunala (Aug 19 – Aug 25)

Lunala

Lunala is worth the passes for the shiny, Master League play, and a respectable ghost role. Rankings move, but it is not a “dex only” legendary this time.

Regis (Aug 26 – Sep 8)

Regirock Regice Registeel

Registeel is the Regi to overstock. Great and Ultra League still use it, and Dynamax Registeel is a top-tier tank in Max content. Rock and Ice are fine for shiny and candy; Steel is the one that pays rent.

Raid Hours (Wednesdays, 6–7 p.m. local)

In-person clears during these hours also line up with daily discovery bonuses (guaranteed Rare XL on the in-person path for the hour).

DateRaid Hour boss
Aug 5Lake Trio
Aug 12Groudon
Aug 19Lunala
Aug 26Regirock, Regice, Registeel

Mega raids

DatesMegaWhy care
Jul 29 – Aug 4Mega AggronSolid starter Steel attacker if your box is thin
Aug 5 – Aug 11Mega BlazikenTop-tier Fire and Fighting; mega level 3 boosts those candy types
Aug 12 – Aug 18Mega GarchompTop Dragon; Earth Power (Elite TM) makes it a monster Ground attacker
Aug 19 – Aug 25Mega SwampertHydro Cannon (Elite TM) for Water; Earthquake for Ground
Aug 26 – Sep 8Mega GyaradosStrong Water; Dark typing after mega for a secondary role

Mega Aggron Mega Blaziken Mega Garchomp Mega Swampert Mega Gyarados

Blaziken, Garchomp, and Swampert are the “do not sleep” megas. Energy to level 3 is the real goal, not a single catch. Garchomp especially: Earth Power is Elite TM territory, and any future Mega Garchomp Z talk makes energy less wasted.

Shadow raids: Shadow Giratina (Altered)

August 5 through September 8 (weekend shadow raid windows). Altered Forme, shiny in the pool (expect the usual legendary-style rate).

Giratina Altered

As a pure raid attacker it is better as Ghost than Dragon. Where it shines is GO Battle League: spice in Great, more serious in Ultra, and usable in Master if the IVs are right and the dragon field is thick. If you care about PvP, keep high-rank shadows; if you only raid, one strong Ghost investor is enough.

Spotlight Hours (Thursdays, 6–7 p.m. local)

DateSpeciesBonusPlay plan
Aug 6Delibird2× Catch StardustBest dust hour of the month. Star Pieces on
Aug 13Wurmple2× Evolve XPEvolve cheap lines under Lucky Eggs
Aug 20Magikarp2× Catch XPCandy for Gyarados; mega Water in the background
Aug 27Mankey2× Catch CandyPrimeape / Annihilape for Great and Ultra

Delibird Wurmple Magikarp Mankey

Delibird on August 6 is the non-negotiable Spotlight. It already pays high base Stardust; with 2× catch Stardust and Star Pieces you are in “serious bank” territory, higher still in boost weather (Ice/Flying). If you only play one Thursday this month, play this one.

Wurmple is an XP dump if you pre-staged 12-candy evolves (Wurmple, Weedle, Caterpie, Whismur, and friends). Lucky Eggs, evolve fast.

Magikarp is candy first, XP second. Four hundred candy to Gyarados is still a wall for a lot of accounts. Mega Gyarados later in the mega rotation is another reason to stock.

Mankey feeds PvP. Primeape and Annihilape both see cup play; Annihilape’s Fighting/Ghost typing is awkward in raids but useful in Ultra and as a budget Master option.

Max Mondays

More Power Spot pressure through the day, with a sharp peak 6–7 p.m. local. In-person Max Monday clears in that hour also pick up the Rare XL discovery bonus.

DateDynamaxNotes
Aug 3MagmarDebut. Path to Magmortar as a budget Max attacker
Aug 10BeldumMetagross tank and multi-type utility (Fury Cutter / Shadow Claw)
Aug 17MagikarpDebut. Gyarados again: Bite / Dragon Breath are strong half-second fast moves
Aug 24HitmontopMostly dex filler; weak stats
Aug 31EeveeHigh demand. Glaceon and Espeon lead the useful Eeveelutions for Max

Magmar Beldum Magikarp Hitmontop Eevee

Treat Hitmontop as optional. Magmar, Beldum, Magikarp, and Eevee are the ones worth planning around.

Research Breakthrough (last month of this pool)

Seventh-day stamp still rolls this set. Hundo CPs to sanity-check appraisals:

Hawlucha (shiny possible)595
Jangmo-o415
Indeedee (male)1027
Indeedee (female)1047
Cloyster1030

Dragonite Axew Hawlucha Jangmo-o Indeedee Cloyster

If you still need a Breakthrough Dragonite or Hawlucha shiny, finish the month strong before the pool rotates.

Daily discovery pattern (rest of the month)

Rough weekly rhythm:

  • Monday (Max focus): denser Max spawns; 6–7 p.m. in-person Rare XL on the Max Monday hour
  • Tuesday: Showcases (up to five entries). Chip the medal; PhD Pikachu is still one of the rarer costume rewards
  • Wednesday: Raid Hour; in-person Rare XL on those hour clears
  • Thursday: GO Battle with 4× Stardust on sets (Star Pieces help)
  • Friday: Friendship Friday. Cheaper trades, extra special trades, more XL from trades, better lucky rate
  • Sunday: Scenic Sunday. Multiple Mateo interactions, gifts, 7 km eggs with regional-leaning hatches (watch for White-Striped Basculin for future Basculegion), stronger route and incense value

Friday is the day to burn special trades and lucky trinkets. Sunday is for routes and eggs.

Timed events

Aug 1 — Gigantamax Rillaboom Max Battle Day (2–5 p.m. local)

Rillaboom

Shiny G-Max Rillaboom expected in the mix. G-Max Rillaboom is the grass Max attacker to own; even standard Rillaboom with Frenzy Plant is a real raid grass pick. If you do not have a strong one yet, this is the session.

Aug 4–10 — Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers

Ponyta Slugma Snover Vanillite

Fire and ice themed spawns, shiny odds up on lines like Ponyta, Snover, Slugma, and Vanillite, plus event GO Pass tasks separate from the main August pass. Sits right on top of Hatch Day.

Aug 8 — Fire and Ice Hatch Day

Smoochum Magby

Smoochum and Magby in 2 km eggs with a very friendly shiny rate. One of the cleaner shundo attempts you will get from eggs all year. Incubators earn their keep here.

Aug 16 — Nickit Community Day (2–5 p.m. local)

Nickit Thievul

Dark-type Community Day, 1/25 shiny class, evolve to Thievul with Icy Wind for PvP. 3× catch Stardust during the window. Save trades and specials into the extended trade hours if your community runs them.

Aug 18–24 — Ultra Unlock: Water Festival

Arrokuda Cramorant Ducklett

Debuts for Arrokuda and Cramorant (forms matter in battle). Shiny boosts on water lines such as Ducklett. Later in the window the catch XP and Stardust multipliers climb hard. Play this one like a resource event, not only a dex event.

Aug 22 — Starmie Super Mega Raid Day

Starmie

Mega Starmie debuts in Super Mega style content. Bring a plan; these are not casual three-player clears. Worth a dedicated session if you care about mega energy and the debut.

Aug 25–30 — Pokémon XP and 2026 Worlds

Expect Worlds costume Pikachu and a field of PvP-relevant spawns. Good candy week for league staples whether you are climbing or building a starter Great League box.

GO Pass: August (from Aug 4)

Latias

Free track highlights include a Latias encounter plus the usual XP, Stardust, and Max Particle crumbs. Deluxe is still in the usual paid tier and ends on a Lucky Trinket.

Rank perks (high level):

  • Early ranks: better trade candy / XL behavior
  • Mid ranks: higher gift send/open caps and bag space for gifts
  • Higher ranks: longer Daily Adventure Incense, better hatch XP and Stardust
  • Deluxe: daily incubator value over the pass window, stronger gift limits

If you already buy one pass a month, August’s trade and gift perks are some of the more practical ones for players who lucky-trade and open gifts every day.

What to prioritize

  1. Aug 6 Delibird Spotlight for Stardust
  2. Groudon / Kyurem / key megas if your raid attackers are outdated
  3. Shadow Giratina if you play Ultra League
  4. Water Festival for XP, Stardust, and new water dex entries
  5. Nickit CD for shiny odds, Icy Wind Thievul, and more Stardust
  6. Registeel candy and Eevee / Metagross Max lines if you push Max battles

For trading, list the legendaries and shadows you will duplicate, and watch Community Day and Hatch Day for cheap lucky specials on Friday discovery bonuses.
